If a band covers another group’s song, they pay royalties to the songwriter. But if someone does an homage to another company’s shoe design, do they get a kick back? I doubt it. Gymboree is currently offering their “Little Mouse Shoes” from the Petite Mademoiselle collection ($34). When I saw these in the store, I knew in an instant we’d met before. They’re a dead ringer for Marc Jacob’s Minnie shoe that he started making in the 90’s, with a variety of interpretations though out the years, like the silver version below ($329 here).
